About Sheena and the Cathouse Gallery

Background
Sheena's creativity showed itself at an early age through drawing, painting and sewing; rarely colouring within the lines and never following patterns.
Animal families made from red Gouda cheese wax, bland white mashed potatoes turned florid pink with beet juice and sculpted into fantasies, were all fair game for transformation in her hands.
Her early years of ballet and later, synchronized swimming, gave her an appreciation for the beauty of movement in the human figure. Her love of animals currently has her collection of 'pets' standing at approx 50 creatures spanning 10 species.
As a graphic artist, her work kept her afloat with full time employment from the age of 21 with sign design at Sign-O-Lite Signs, illustration with Colt Advertising, and set design & game show graphics with Catelena Productions for "Let's Make A Deal" and a number of other TV productions. At age 27 she joined the Jim Pattison Sign Group as a designer and later became Art Director for 12 years.

Relocating to Qualicum Bay on Vancouver Island in 2002, she continued her employment with Pattison as a designer while working from home. Her computer skills are well honed in Photoshop and Illustrator and she is no stranger to a variety of other production and office programs. She is a holder of multiple international and national awards in sign design.
Volunteering in her community of Lighthouse Country, she developed skills outside the workforce as president of the Community Club, sitting on the QBHL Water Board, a founding member of the Lighthouse Bluegrass Festival and President of the Community Hall. She enjoys the creative challenge of change and innovation while heeding the realities of limited resources, work loads and politics.
Over the years, Sheena's personal pursuit of creativity away from the commercial avenues has taken the form of sculpture, painting, charcoal drawings and regular life drawing sessions. Spontaneous, lively lines, an appreciation of the human figure and fresh creativity run consistently through her creations.
In 2015 she changed employment directions, becoming a full time artist at the CATHOUSE GALLERY, head cat wrangler at the COMFY CAT KENNEL,and flyer at SILVERWINGS WHITE DOVES
She has won numerous awards for artwork in the past, including placing Qualicum Beach's Grand Prix D'Art and TOSH's 'Sunday Painters'. She is an Active Member of the Canadian Federation of Artists and has shown in juried shows through the CFA winning multiple awards with her sculptures including the CFA 2022 Showcase 1st place and the Sooke Fine Art 2022 Designers Choice, and Honorable mention with the FCA Active Members show 2023
