PERSEPHONE

Full size female form. 3d wire sculpture wall hanging. Interior or exterior installation. Painted, galvanized chicken wire.
Depicting Persephone, the beautiful Greek goddess who was whisked away to the underworld by Hades. Her mother, Demeter, goddess of fertility, farming, and vegetation, missed her daughter so much that she caused a famine on the land. Hades relented and permitted Persephone to return to the upper world but before leaving he tricked her into eating 6 pomegranate seeds. This ensured her return to Hades for 6 months of the year. When Persephone arrives back on the land, it's spring and she stays for 6 months of warmth and growth, then returns to Hades leaving us with the winter months.
Persephone is shown here with her pomegranate, 6 pomegranate seeds in her crown and a rose at her hip. Longing for spring. She is associated with fertility, rebirth and regeneration of flowers
