2023 - Starting the year right

Writer's picture: Sheena McCorquodaleSheena McCorquodale

I was lucky enough to have my sculpture ‘Drift’ juried in to the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Active Member Exhibition show and hung in the front window of the Federation Gallery on Granville Island Jan 10-22. My conte portrait ‘Victoria’ is currently on display there in the ‘Works on Paper’ Show, Jan 24 - Feb 5 and two of my smaller sculptures ‘Precipice’ and ‘Sphere’ will be there in the ‘Shape & Form’ Exhibition Feb 21 - March 5.

Having my sculptures accepted by the FCA is a thrill for me but it is also wonderful for the concept of using chicken wire for sculpting. I always get a bit of a chuckle when I’m asked, “Oh, you’re a sculptor? What medium do you use?” The answer usually leaves them with a puzzeled expression. I’m hoping that by having my sculptures exhibited in good galleries, chicken wire will become better known and accepted as just another art medium.

I hope your 2023 will be full of creative endeavours and plenty of growth opportunities. Drop in to the Gallery to say Hi
